Engineering Intern (Sensors and Software)
Saturn Terminal turns satellite imagery, soil sensors, and weather data into irrigation decisions growers can act on the same morning. This internship sits where the field hardware meets the software that makes sense of what it sends.
You will be outside with the equipment as often as you are at a keyboard, and you will be shipping real work rather than shadowing it.
What you will do
- Deploy, calibrate, and troubleshoot field sensors and connected irrigation hardware
- Write and maintain Python services that ingest, validate, and store sensor data
- Build and test API endpoints that expose that data to the rest of the platform
- Write queries and schema changes against PostgreSQL
- Work in a Dockerized development setup alongside the rest of the team
- Help debug connectivity, power, and data quality issues in the field
What we are looking for
- Studying electronics, mechatronics, or electrical engineering; strong software engineering candidates also considered
- Familiarity with IoT concepts including sensors, microcontrollers, and wireless data transmission
- Working knowledge of Python, ideally with some exposure to FastAPI or a similar framework
- Comfort with Git and GitHub
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL or another relational database
- Docker basics
- Willing to work outdoors in a field environment
Nice to have
- Exposure to Azure or another cloud platform
- Interest in irrigation, evapotranspiration, or FAO-56 water balance methods
- Prior agricultural or field research experience
Details
- Paid at $15 to $20 per hour, depending on experience
- 10 to 20 hours per week, scheduled around your classes
- 2 to 3 month term, with the possibility of extending
- On site at the WET Center on the Fresno State campus
