Agronomy Intern (Field Research)

Our platform makes a prediction about what a field needs. This internship is about checking that prediction against what is actually happening in the soil and in the plant.

You will be our eyes on the crop, running trials and collecting the measurements that tell us where our model is right and where it needs work.

What you will do

• Run field trials and collect soil moisture, plant health, and growth stage data
• Compare platform irrigation recommendations against observed field conditions
• Work alongside the engineering intern on sensor placement and validation
• Track crop type, growth stage, and soil conditions across test plots
• Summarize findings clearly for a team that is not all agronomists

What we are looking for

• Studying agronomy, plant science, soil science, irrigation science, or a related agricultural field
• Understanding of crop growth stages, soil moisture, and plant water demand
• Careful and consistent approach to collecting and recording data
• Willing to spend significant time outdoors in Central Valley conditions
• Able to communicate findings to engineers in plain language

Nice to have

• Familiarity with evapotranspiration and FAO-56 water balance concepts
• Comfort with spreadsheets or basic statistics for handling trial data
• Exposure to irrigation system design or scheduling
• Spanish language skills for grower conversations

Details

• Paid at $15 to $20 per hour, depending on experience
• 10 to 20 hours per week, scheduled around your classes
• 2 to 3 month term, with the possibility of extending
• On site at the WET Center on the Fresno State campus
